Pune Tops In E-Registration of Rent Agreements
PUNE: Pune has emerged as the top city in the State in e-registration of leave and license (L&L) agreement, popularly known as the rent agreement. Of the total 18,990 e-registrations of L&L agreements made so far across the State, Pune’s share was 13,583 followed by Thane 3,306 and Mumbai 1,232. The other parts of the State have recorded just 16 e-registrations.
The e-registration of L&L agreements, launched by the State Department of registration and stamps in February last year, helps property owners and tenants to register their documents online by paying necessary stamp duty and registration fees online. The system requires only Unique Identification Number of both parties.
The department sends back registered document electronically. Interested citizens can do this registration from their home or through a network of 80 authorised agents or 150 Maha Online services centers in state. Addressing media persons on Tuesday, the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) and Controller of Stamps, Ramaswami N, said that Pune is receiving encouraging response for e-registrations of L&L agreements as there has been awareness among citizens.
“By doing e-registrations, people can save their time and money as they need not travel to registration office to get the work done,” he added. Responding to questions, Ramaswami admitted that there is a need to promote this initiative across the State.
“The department has set a target to attain 50 pc of total L&L agreements through e-registration by the end of next fiscal,” he added. He said that a large section of tenants are resorting to registration from notary. “In Mumbai, for example, although, the number of L&L registration is high, the quantum of e-registration is abysmal due to lack of awareness. We have requested Mumbai police to entertain only L&L registration for tenets’ registration instead registration by notary,” he added.
